As we’re sure a lot of you might already know, Citywire hosts an annual charity run that’s held in Regents Park. It’s a day enjoyed by all, where plenty of Citywire staff and clients come together to run 10k and raise money for incredible charities.
However this year due to the impact of Covid-19 our annual run couldn’t take place as it usually would. This did not stop us!
We made the charity run virtual! This meant that everyone who wanted to take part had to download the running app Strava. Then they were able to just record their 10k run (or 5k as a new addition this year) at any point during the day. Whilst this was the first time we had held a virtual run, it was a complete success and presented loads of positives.
People from anywhere in the world could take part! We had people running in Spain, Switzerland, South Africa and Singapore which has never been possible before. Furthermore, whilst we weren’t all able to be together and enjoy the spirit of the usual event day, the sense of community was no less. The Strava group page was full of messages of encouragement and photos which was lovely to see throughout the day!
Here are some photos and run routes from a few of the events team members who took part:
Our chosen charities this year were Saint Francis Hospice and Neuroblastoma UK. Saint Francis Hospice needs £8 million a year from fundraising to stay open and Neuroblastoma needs £461,000 to stay open. All the fundraising they would normally be getting isn’t happening at the moment due to Covid-19 so it’s amazing that we were still able to help them. In total from all of the donations we’ve received, we have raised over £25,000 for them which is incredible!
We can’t thank everyone enough for taking part and of course donating! And as always a huge well done to Abi Fellowes for organising another wonderful and successful event.
We look forward to seeing you all again next year to run in person!
