The Citywire events machine is already heating up, and preparations are more than underway for a packed 2020 schedule! With all the talk of what’s to come, we thought we would treat you to a special look back on one of our many successful speakers in 2019: Dr. Kevin Fong.
Kevin took to the stage twice in 2019, in Switzerland and at our Passive Investment Retreat. Far from a passive member of society, Kevin has had an active engagement within the community. Ranging from his role as an Emergency Response Doctor, to his work on the limitations of the human body in space.
In his talks in Switzerland and Hampshire, Kevin examined the intricate decision-making processes in the final thirteen minutes of the Apollo 11 moon landings. This was somewhat poignant in the year of the 50th anniversary of the moon landings. Kevin took us through some of the key decisions, people and ideas that allowed man to touch down on the moon.
Not only were the talks relevant to the average astrophysics’ enthusiast, there were some genuinely useful business and investment takeaways. Key themes in Kevin’s presentation included:
The value of youth
The average age of Apollo mission controllers was 26 years old.
Leadership
Exampling that of Flight Director Gene Kranz, who instilled a sense of shared responsibility.
The importance of the team as a whole
Which was reflected by Steve Bales, who kept his nerve in one of the most pivotal moments during Apollo 11’s landing on the moon.
As always at Citywire, we aim to bring you the best speakers at all of our events. You can check out more of them via our Sessions page. Expect to look forward to hearing from more speakers like Dr. Kevin Fong throughout 2020.
