We were very kindly taken out to Frankfurt in May by a couple of hotel groups in order for us to attend one of the biggest global events conferences. Between us, we got to stay in the Hyatt, Kempinski and Villa Kennedy (it is trips like this that really showcase the perks of our jobs!)
Before going to IMEX, we got to see the brand new Andaz Hotel by Hyatt in Munich. It’s a super nice hotel with a great event space to use and has a keen focus on staying sustainable.
We got to do lots of fun stuff while we were over there from a walking tour of Munich, which included a sunny stop in the beer garden for Lowenbrau and bratwurst, to a brewery tour and tasting. We ate far too much pretzel, referring to the photo of us sat in a giant golden pretzel to prove this point further.
Continuing on all of the fun aspects of our trip, after the first day of tackling all of the stands at IMEX, our respective hotels put on evening events for us. We the pleasure of being treated to dinner and drinks on a boat on the Main river.
But despite being well treated by our respective hotel chains (and dressing up as traditional Bavarian women) there was a lot of research to be done.
We’re always on the hunt for new hotels to host our events in, so it was a great place to go to find out about all of the new openings that are on the way and hotels that we hadn’t heard of or considered before. Of course, the hot topic at the moment is sustainability and what we can all do to improve the future of our planet. A lot of new hotels are aiming to become plastic free, reduce food waste and source local products. Using hotels like this will be a helpful step for us in starting to make our events more sustainable.
There were also a couple of local businesses there who we met with which have sparked us into looking for some local charities to support. Once we’ve finished an event it would be good to be able to donate any leftover gifts (notepads, pens etc) to those who need it instead of shipping it back to the office (also reducing our carbon footprint, which is something everyone who has to travel for work is starting to feel guilty about) If you often come to our events look out for the changes we are going to work hard on making!
Finishing this on the most fun thing I think we found at IMEX…here’s to making our events out of this world.
